Free sewing event! Frankenbags with Tara de la Garza

Meet Tara de la Garza-- she gets her inspiration from the vast waste that comes from us humans, and makes beautiful things. Her current non-profit Inventurous is looking to stop waste from entering landfills by inspiring regular people to make things out of it. This weekend's offering is her Frankenbags workshop, using all sorts of plastics that regularly get tossed in the bin and making bags from them.

Blue plastic newspaper bags make a frame around a photo of people holding things they've made from upcycled plastic. The text says Franken-bags.

If you've got some preliminary sewing machine skills, you should check it out. Not only is Tara an engaging artist and inventor, her studio is at the Cubberley Community Center. You'll be sure to stumble upon a new artist you have to meet.

Workshop is this Saturday, March 22nd from 3pm to 7pm. No, you don't have to stay the whole time-- it's ok to drop in. But if you are somewhat new to sewing, come at the beginning so you can get an intro into what she is doing.
